In the three months of Q3-2019 this year, total payouts to shareholders grew 2.8% to a record of $ 355.3bn, according to the Janus Henderson Global Dividend Index report.
Global Dividend rise to $ 1.43 bln in 2019
British asset manager Janus Henderson expects global dividend payments to rise to $ 1.43 bln in 2019. This is equivalent to a 5.4% underlying rise, down from 8.5% in 2018. Dividends are now almost twice as high as a decade ago. For 2020 the forecast is still a growth of 2%. The energy sector saw the strongest growth in Q3-2019, with dividends up by just over a fifth on an underlying basis. US dividend hit an all-time record of $124.7bn.

World’s biggest dividend payers
Royal Dutch Shell is still the world’s largest dividend payer on a yearly bases and this is already for the fourth consecutive year. Teleco AT&T is set to be the biggest dividend payer in the US this year for the first time since 2012, paying out about $14.9bn.
The top 5 also consists of Apple (AAPL), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Microsoft (MSFT). The five largest dividend payers in the world account for just 5% of the total amount of dividends worldwide.
